If you decide to strengthen the reception of the signal by the modem by connecting an additional antenna to it, then, apparently, you already have a tail-adapter soldered to the modem, the wires of which, as a rule, can loosen and break off. The solution here will be to rework the USB modem by attaching it to an additional case.
Instructions
Step 1
Disassemble the case. To do this, unscrew the small self-tapping screws located at the ends of the modem case, then remove the plastic plugs on the central aluminum part of the case and remove the board with the USB connector. This board is located between the two pieces of the large plug. And in order to disassemble the plug, unscrew the small self-tapping screw that is screwed into the recess at the end of the plug.
Step 2
Try on a modem and USB extension cable. After you remove the board, two holes will become free in the dummy plug, one of which goes under the LED, and the other serves to fasten the USB cable. Since the diameter of the hole for the LED is slightly smaller than the diameter of the wire of our USB extension cable, the wire will perfectly fit in it and will not be pinched. Connect the USB extension cable to the modem and assemble the half-open plug with it.
Step 3
Shorten the modem tail-adapter so that the tail connector protrudes beyond the small plug. After you have shortened the tail, mark a hole for the tail connector on the end cap and drill the hole. When drilling, increase the drill diameter gradually: first 4 mm, then 5, 8 and 9 mm.
Step 4
The diameter of the tail connector is greater than 9 mm, and so that the connector does not dangle freely, drill a hole with a 10 mm drill and then fix it with a nut. There is also another option: process the hole after the drill with a 9 mm file, take a similar connector and cut a thread in the plastic with it, driving the connector back and forth several times. The second option will be preferable, since the nut will take up part of the connector length.
Step 5
Tighten all mounting screws into place.
