The operation of a computer, like any other equipment, sooner or later leads to various breakdowns. If your computer once stopped responding to pressing the power button, most likely your power supply or motherboard is broken. In this case, it is impractical to immediately run to a computer store and buy a new power supply or board, since you do not know for sure what exactly has failed. You can exclude or confirm a breakdown of the power supply if you try to turn it on separately from the motherboard.
Necessary
Computer, motherboard, power supply, paper clip or tweezers, basic computer skills
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the computer from the power supply by unplugging the network cable. Remove the cover of the system unit by unscrewing the retaining screws with a screwdriver. Then place the system unit on the floor and disconnect the power supply cables from the connectors on the system board. In this case, do not disconnect the power supply from the drive, as it must be turned on under load.
Step 2
Take the cable from the power supply (which was disconnected from the motherboard). You will see that there are 20 pins on it, each of which accepts one wire. Find the green wire and, for example, use a paper clip or tweezers to pin it to any black wire. After that, take the power cord and plug it into an outlet with one end and into the power supply with the other.
Step 3
If the power supply turns on (the cooler starts working and the drive LED lights up), then the cause of the breakdown most likely lies in the motherboard. If it does not turn on, then the power supply is out of order and you will have to buy a new one.
