When working with Outlook Express, it is possible not only to import business cards and address books from other applications for working with e-mail, but also to export addresses, business cards and messages saved in their Outlook Express to other programs or files that are convenient for use without special software. Such an action may be required, for example, if the user needs to reinstall the OS, update it or recover from a crash.

Instructions

Step 1

Copy the address book files in the internal format of the program. They are located at C: / WINDOWS / ApplicationData / Microsoft / AddressBook for pre-Millenium Windows owners or C: / Documents_and_Settings / user_id / LocalSettings / ApplicationData / Identities {user_id} Microsoft / Outlook Express on later operating systems this version.

Step 2

Along with these files, you can also save messages whose addresses for different versions of systems are C: / Windows / Application {user_id} Microsoft_Corporation / Outlook_Express and C: / Documents_and_Settings / user_id / LocalSettings / Application / Identities {user_id} Microsoft / Outlook_Express respectively.

Step 3

These data should be saved to ensure their inviolability when performing the following manipulations. They can be used to restore the database of contacts and messages - after the operating system is first launched and Outlook Express is installed, folders of the same name will be created at the same addresses. Copying the saved databases into them will allow them to be used.

Step 4

Save the program address book as a text file with fields separated by commas. To do this, you need to execute the "Address Book" command in the "Export" submenu of the "File" menu. The resulting file will be saved in a user-specified location.

Step 5

Import the text file into Outlook. To do this, after reinstalling the application, execute the "Other Address Book" command in the "Import" submenu of the "File" menu.

Step 6

It is also possible to simply copy the address book using the clipboard, using the "Ctrl + C" key combination - this approach will save everything, not just the default addresses.
