Instructions

Step 1

Reboot the system to initiate the unlock procedure and press the F8 function key to bring up the secure login settings menu. Specify the command "Safe Mode with Command Line Support" and invoke the Task Manager utility by pressing the Alt, Ctrl and Del keys at the same time.

Step 2

Open the "File" menu from the service panel of the dispatcher window and select the "New task" item. Enter the value regedit in the "Open" line of the dialog box that appears and confirm the launch of the "Registry Editor" tool by clicking the OK button. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWinlogon branch and make sure that the Shell key is explorer.exe. If any other values are present, they should be removed.

Step 3

Look for a key named userinit in the same place and make sure that its value matches: drive_name: WindowsSystem32userinit.exe. Remove any other values for this parameter if any. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWindows branch and make sure that the value for the Appinit_DLLs parameter remains empty. Delete any other values, if any, and restart your computer to apply the changes.

Step 4

Delete any leftover malware files or use the AVZ specialized utility to perform an alternative Start Menu unlock operation. To do this, download and install this application on your computer. Run the program and open the "File" menu in the service panel of the application window. Select the item "Troubleshooting Wizard" and use the "Start" button in the wizard window that opens. Apply the check boxes for the problems to be fixed and click the Fix Marked Issues button.
