Step 1
In order to open the hard drive, you need to go to the "My Computer" folder. To do this, you need to find a shortcut on the Desktop called "My Computer" and start it by double-clicking on it with the left mouse button. A list of devices for storing information (both stationary and separately connected) will be shown in the folder that opens. In this list, you must select the hard disk that you want to open and double-click on it with the left mouse button (with some non-standard operating system settings, the object is selected when you hover the mouse cursor over it, and it starts by single clicking the left mouse button).
You can also open the hard disk by calling the action menu over the disk (by right-clicking on it once); in the menu that appears, select the line "Open".
Step 2
If the hard drive does not open in the usual way, then perhaps you just need to check it for errors and do defragmentation. To check for errors, select the hard drive in the "My Computer" folder and right-click on it to bring up the context menu. In this menu, you need to select the line "Properties". In the window that opens, select the "Service" tab, then click the "Run check …" button in the "Check disk" block. In the window that appears, check the boxes next to "Automatically fix system errors" and "Check and repair bad sectors", and then click the "Start" button. Checking the disk may take several minutes or more (the exact time depends on the characteristics of the computer and the state of the hard disk). To start defragmentation, in the same "Properties" menu on the "Service" tab (see above), click the "Perform defragmentation …" (in the "Disk Defragmenter" section). In the window that appears, you need to select the disk that needs to be defragmented and run its analysis. After analyzing it, you can start defragmentation. The duration of this process also depends on the characteristics of the computer and the state of the hard disk. After performing these operations, the damaged hard disk should open using standard methods.
Step 3
If the hard disk contains viruses that do not allow you to open it in the usual ways, then you need to view the contents of the disk using a special explorer. To do this, go to the "My Computer" folder, right-click on the hard drive once and select the "Explorer" line in the menu that appears. This method avoids the launch of viruses, since malicious programs usually infect the autorun file by writing to the command to open the disk. And the explorer allows you to open the contents of the disk without starting the startup file.
