An external hard drive is a must for many people. It is designed to transfer and store a large amount of information. Modern portable drives can hold several terabytes. Of course, not everyone knows how to use them. But in reality, learning how to open a hard drive is easy.

Step 1
If your portable hard drive is still packed, carefully remove it from the box. This is quite fragile, so don't drop or hit it.
Step 2
Modern removable hard drives are easy to connect to your computer. Take the wire that comes with the kit. There will be a USB plug on one side. Take the opposite plug and connect it to the removable hard drive. There is only one connector on the removable hard drive. A USB connect to the computer (connectors can be on the back, front and side of the case of the system unit). Some hard drive models may have 2 USB on one side of the wire, connect both to your PC. This option of external hard drives allows you to work at a higher speed.
Step 3
The desktop will inform you that a new drive is connected. After a few seconds, a window will open in which you can open the removable hard drive or start playback from it (if you need to watch a movie or listen to music). Better to select the open function. This will allow you to select the file you want. If suddenly the window with the choice of actions does not open, go to My Computer, select the removable hard disk there and double-click on it with the left mouse button (or click once with the right one and select the function open).
Step 4
Sometimes a CD with drivers is included with the removable hard drive. Then, before opening the hard drive, you need to insert the disc into the CD-player. When the window opens, select the function to install drivers (there may be a different name, look for the function to install). After installing the drivers, restart your computer and open the portable hard drive.
Step 5
There is another type of removable hard drives. They are connected, including to a regular outlet. After all the above steps, find the plug and insert it into the outlet. Usually, this is how hard drives with a form factor of 3.5 inches are connected. Now these are less popular hard drives.
