Instructions

Step 1

To create a new layer, click on the Create a new layer button at the bottom of the layers palette or use the Shift + Ctrl + N combination. On the toolbar, click the Set foreground color square and select the desired shade from the color bar. Confirm your selection by clicking OK

Step 2

To activate the "Fill", press on the keyboard G and click on the screen. The layer will be filled with a new color. You can change the intensity and opacity of the fill. To do this, change the Opacity and Fill values on the property bar or on the layers panel.

Step 3

From the Edit menu, choose the Fill command, or use the Shift + F5 combination. In the dialog box, in the Use list, you can select the fill color and fill method, in the Blending section, set the blending mode and opacity. If you select the Preserve Trasparency check box, the transparent areas of the picture will not be painted over.

Step 4

You can use not only a tool and a command, but also keyboard shortcuts. To fill the layer with the foreground color, press Alt + Bacspace, the background color - Ctrl + Bacspace. If you add the Shift key to these combinations, the tool will bypass the transparent areas of the image when filling.

Step 5

You can fill a layer not only with color, but also with a pattern. On the property bar, under the main menu items, there is a list next to the bucket image. The default is Foreground. If you choose Pattern ("Pattern"), a new list appears next to a set of textures to fill. Check any of them, then click on the screen

Step 6

You can create a texture yourself. Open any picture and select an area on it with tools from the group M. In the Edit menu, select the command Define Pattern ("Define pattern") and in a new window give a name to the new texture. Click OK to confirm. The new pattern will be added to the end of the list of ready textures.
