When working with the Windows XP operating system, you may encounter such a problem as the periodic appearance on the screen of a window with a text about a possible error (file svchost.exe). This kind of error can be associated with a violation of stability in the system, the cause of which can be found in the "Event log".

Step 1
To launch the above application, you must click the "Start" menu, select the "Run" item in the list that opens, enter the services.msc command in the empty field and click the "OK" button.

In the "Services" window that opens, find the item "Automatic Updates" and open it. In the new window, go to the "Login" tab and check the accuracy of the username.

Uncheck "Allow desktop interaction". In the "Hardware Profile" section, go to the "Login" tab and enable this option.

On the "General" tab, check if the "Startup" option is active, if the option is not active, check the box next to this item.

Now click the Start menu and select Run. In the blank field of the new window, enter the command cmd (command line) and click the "OK" button.

In the window that opens, enter the regsvr32 wuapi.dll command, then press the Enter key. Wait until the following message appears on the screen: DllRegisterServer in wuapi.dll succeeded.

The same actions in the command line must be performed with the commands regsvr32 wuaueng.dll, regsvr32 atl.dll, regsvr32 wucltui.dll, regsvr32 wups2.dll, regsvr32 wups.dll, regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll, regsvr32 wuweb.dll.

Then, in the command line, type the command net stop WuAuServ and press the Enter key. Then enter the command cd% windir% and also press the Enter key.

Despite the fact that there are many commands entered, this will not affect the operation of the operating system. There are a few commands left to enter: ren SoftwareDistribution SD_OLD (renames the Software Distribution folder).
Step 10
The basic steps to eliminate the causes of the svchost.exe error message are now complete. To restart the Windows Update service, enter the net start WuAuServ command in the command line and press the Enter key.

To exit the command line, you can use the Exit command or click on the cross in the upper right corner of the program. After rebooting, the error window will stop appearing, including after updating the operating system.
