Instructions
Step 1
Insert the USB stick into your computer. Be sure to check it with an antivirus program with updated database versions, then open and carefully study its contents, view the share of displayed data in the total occupied space of the flash drive.
Step 2
Turn on the display of hidden items on your computer. To do this, open the "Folder Options" in the "Control Panel" menu or in the "Tools" item, being in any directory on your computer. In the small window that opens, select the second tab, which is responsible for customizing the appearance.
Step 3
Scroll to the bottom of the list and check the box next to "Show hidden folders and files". Also, just above, uncheck the "Hide extensions for registered file types" item. The second is optional, however, it will help you determine the type of files on the removable media. Apply and save your changes.
Step 4
Open the contents of the flash drive and see if any hidden content has appeared there, which, quite possibly, took up extra space. If it doesn't, try checking for a hidden partition on the memory card. To do this, go to the "Control Panel" and select "Administrative Tools". In Computer Management, open your memory devices and view the structure of your flash drive.
Step 5
If you have not found hidden files or partitions on the removable media, download and install a file manager on your computer to view the contents of the folders. You can use the usual Total Commander, however, in most cases it also does not see items that are not displayed on removable media. The FAR manager, which you can download from the official website (https://www.farmanager.com/), is best suited for this situation.
Step 6
Install the file manager on your computer, insert the drive into the USB port of your computer and open its contents in the program. To navigate directories in FAR, use the arrow keys, Backspace and Enter. View the contents of the flash drive with it.
