The scale of all elements of the graphical interface of the operating system is changed by increasing or decreasing the screen resolution in the OS settings. The more dots per unit of monitor area the system can display, the smaller the scale of the desktop and application windows.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, first right-click a space on the desktop that is free of windows and icons to access the settings for changing the resolution. In the context menu that appears, select the item "Screen resolution". In the screen settings window, open the drop-down list on the button next to the "Resolution" label and move the slider with the left mouse button to set the required value. Please note that one of the values here is marked with the word “recommended” - this screen resolution is considered optimal for your monitor.
Step 2
If your computer is running Windows XP, the sequence of steps should be slightly different. Here, too, you need to right-click on the desktop, but there is no "Screen resolution" item in the context menu. Select the "Properties" line to open the window for changing the display settings and go to the "Options" tab.
Step 3
Select the screen resolution you need by moving the slider located in the lower left corner of this tab. Then press the "Apply" button and the OS will change the resolution for a short period of time - 15 seconds. During this time, you need to evaluate how the selected option corresponds to the desired one and press the "Yes" button. If the new scale does not suit you, then you do not need to press anything - wait for the timer to end and return to the previous screen resolution. In this way, you can visually select the most optimal screen resolution value.
Step 4
Sometimes the ability to change the resolution is limited to only a few options, none of which is capable of achieving the desired scale. As a rule, this means that the OS uses the driver for the video card with minimal capabilities, fearing to damage it. Either the video card is not recognized by the system, or there is no corresponding driver in the system. You need to install the required software yourself.
