For storing text information, documents, tables, it is better to use regular CD / R discs. Although their capacity is only 700 megabytes, this is quite enough for such files. In addition, such discs are supported by absolutely any optical drive. It is possible that the recorded documents will have to be opened on an old office computer, where the optical drive does not read DVD format discs. Plus, DVDs are more expensive.

For recording films, programs, video files, it is better to buy DVD discs. Files of this format usually take up a lot of space, and much more of this information will be recorded on a DVD than on a CD / R. Plus, you can be sure that the entire DVD space will be full. If you are going to burn a lot of films, then it is better to buy DVDs in large boxes, 20 or more discs. It will be cheaper this way.

For photographs, it is also better to buy DVDs. Modern digital cameras have matrices from 10 megapixels. Some photos can be over 10 megabytes in size. And considering that you usually need to record a lot of photos, then using a DVD disc will be very convenient. In addition, if you record using a multisession, then new photos can be constantly added to the DVD disc until the disc memory is completely depleted.

If you need to use the disc as temporary storage of information and to transfer information from one computer to another, buy a DVD / RW. This type of disc can be overwritten multiple times.
