It is not uncommon for users to encounter operating system boot sector errors. The reasons for these problems can be completely different. It is important to be able to quickly and correctly restore Windows boot files.
Necessary
Windows disk
Instructions
Step 1
If you are dealing with the operating system Windows XP, then you need the disk on which its installation files are located. If you are using not the original version of the system, but a certain "assembly", then it is better to use exactly the disk from which you installed the OS. Insert it into the drive and turn on the computer.
Step 2
Open the BIOS menu and set the boot priority from DVD. To do this, change the value of the desired item in the Boot Options menu. Save these parameters by pressing the F10 key. After rebooting, press any key to start the program from disk. Wait until the pre-preparation of the files is completed and a menu appears with the words "Install Windows XP". Press the R key. This is required to start the Recovery Console.
Step 3
In the menu that appears, specify the operating system by pressing the desired number. If the computer has one OS installed, then press the number 1 and the Enter key. Now enter the computer administrator password. If there is no password, then just press the Enter key. When the message: C: / WINDOWS> appears, enter the fixboot command and press the Enter key.
Step 4
A message should appear with information about the boot sector of the disk. Press Y (yes) and Enter. After a while, enter the fixmbr command. Type Y again and press Enter. Restart your computer after the utility has finished running.
Step 5
For Vista or Seven operating systems, you can use the built-in Boot Sector Repair feature. To do this, run the installer and select the "Advanced recovery options" menu. Select the "Startup recovery" column and confirm the procedure.
