USB flash drive is one of the most famous distributors of computer viruses. Of those that end up on a USB flash drive, the most common is Autorun.inf, which uses the "autorun" function for its activation. This feature works on all systems by default.

Step 1
By using the drive on different computers, you infect it if the user's computer contains viruses. Viruses can enter a PC through a network connected to the Internet or locally. By connecting a USB flash drive to different computers, you spread infected files.
Step 2
You do not protect your PC from offline viruses with browsers and firewalls. You do not protect your computer with antivirus software, as for the most part, they work online.
Step 3
Start the protection mechanism on the connected media. To do this, find the root directory of the media and a special file called autorun.inf. This file contains a description of the programs that the system launches every time the media is connected to the PC.
Step 4
The Windows system has the ability to autorun certain applications from the connected media. Using this feature, the virus is launched from removable media. Subsequent infections occur by the virus creating its own autorun.inf file. Then the virus is registered in the PC. You will not be able to detect the fact of media infection even when examining the flash drive with the standard Windows explorer.
Step 5
To avoid infection, complete the following tasks. Make it impossible to create an autorun.inf file in the root directory of removable media. Timely detect an attempt to infect the carrier with the autorun.inf virus.
Step 6
Prevent the creation of any files at the root of the media. Create a dedicated folder where you can store your files. Allow write / read operations for it. To do this, find the security properties of the directory, the "Advanced" option. Disable permission from the main object. Uncheck the corresponding option. In the directory that appears, click "Copy". Press ok twice to save your changes.
Step 7
Next, disable the root directory entry. The created folder with files will not inherit new settings. Then select the entry "record" and click "deny". In the "Allow" column, select the "Read and Execute", "Folder Contents", "Read" rights. The autorun file will not be written to such a flash drive.
