When two or more operating systems are installed on a computer, a menu appears at the beginning of the computer booting, prompting you to select the required OS. If this menu seems redundant to the user, it can be removed.

Step 1
Most often, the operating system selection menu annoys the user not with the fact of its existence, but with the need to press Enter or wait 30 seconds before the system starts loading. Having two operating systems on your computer is convenient and useful, so it is not recommended to disable the menu. It would be more correct to change the waiting time from 30 seconds to two or three. This is quite enough to choose, if necessary, a second operating system.
Step 2
If you are using Windows XP, open: "Start - Control Panel - System - Advanced". In the Startup and Recovery section, click the Options button. In the list of operating systems, select the default bootable one. If the OS you want boots by default, do not select anything.
Step 3
In the event that you still want to disable the boot menu, uncheck the box next to the line "Display a list of operating systems". Save the changes by clicking "OK", after restarting the system, the default OS will be loaded immediately.
Step 4
You can leave the menu (highly recommended), but change the display time of the list of operating systems - just set the time that suits you in the field after the line "Display the list of operating systems". For example, three seconds. This option is convenient because in case of problems with loading the main operating system, you can always boot from the backup, save important files and calmly start restoring or reinstalling the main operating system.
Step 5
If you are using Windows 7, right-click the "Computer" icon on the desktop, select "Properties" from the menu that opens, then "Advanced system settings", the "Advanced" tab. Remove the checkbox from the line "Display a list of operating systems". Confirm your choice by clicking "OK".
