Setting a password for your Windows account will help prevent unauthorized access to your files by other computer users. Windows OS allows you to set both a simple numeric password and a complex one containing letters from different registry.
Instructions
Step 1
In Microsoft Windows XP / 2003, the user password is set as follows. Log into the operating system under the administrator account or under another account with administrator rights. Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel." In the window that appears, select the "User Accounts" shortcut. In the list of accounts, select the one for which you want to set a password to launch the shell ("Your account") and click the "Set password" link. Enter the password and repeat it in the special input fields, and also enter a hint, then click " OK”or“Set password”. After changing the user or restarting the computer, the changes will take effect.
Step 2
Also in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you can set a password for logging into an account as follows: in the control panel, find the shortcut "Administrative Tools", and in the administration service select "Computer Management" - "Local networks and groups." Select the desired user and right-click click on his nickname, then select the "Set password" item in the appeared context menu.
Step 3
In subsequent versions of operating systems, Windows Vista and Windows 7, the password is set directly from the Start menu. Click on the Windows icon and click on the user's picture, in other words, the avatar. The "Make Changes to User Account" window appears. The first link in this window is “Create a password for your account”. Click on it with the left mouse button. In the transition window, enter the password and repeat it in the special input fields, and also come up with a hint in case you forget your password to log into Windows, and then click the "Create password" button. Here you can also read information on how to create a strong password that is difficult to crack. To do this, follow the link "How to create a strong password" located under the input fields. The password is activated the next time you start your computer or when you change users in Windows Vista / 7.
