When several people work on a computer, you always want your personal files to be inaccessible to other users. Of course, you can not store the files on the hard drive that you want to protect from other users. But this is not very convenient. Especially in cases where there is a lot of information, and it is constantly updated. Much easier is to encrypt access to your information. Then only those users who know the password will be able to open your files.

Necessary

  • - Computer;
  • - PGP program.

Instructions

Step 1

In order to be able to set a password on the folders with your personal files, you will need the PGP program, which is one of the most understandable and simple of its kind. It "weighs" a little more than one megabyte. Find the program on the Internet and download. Install PGP on your computer.

Step 2

Run the program. In its main menu, select the Lock folders option. The Browse For Folder window appears. Select the folder where you want to set a password and click OK. The browse window will close, after which another will appear, in which there will be two lines. This is where you need to set the password. Enter your password on the top line, and repeat it on the bottom. It is desirable that the password be at least seven characters long. It is also recommended to set a password, which consists of both letters and numbers. If you wish, you can enter a password reminder on the Hint line in case you forget it.

Step 3

After that, in the lower right corner of the window, click on the Lock folder command. The process of setting the password for the selected folder will begin. Its duration depends on the length of the password (maximum five to seven seconds). When the password is set, you will see in the program window the name of the folder that you have password protected. It will display a red icon. Now, if someone tries to open the folder that you encrypted, a window will appear asking you to enter your password.

Step 4

If you need to remove the password from a folder so as not to enter it every time you open it, do the following. Run the program. In the window in the main menu there is a list of folders for which you have set passwords. Left-click on the folder from which you want to remove the password. Then select the Anlock folders function in the program menu. In the window that appears, enter the current password for the selected folder. Then, in the lower left corner of the current program window, click on the Anlock folders line. The process of removing the password from the selected folder will begin.
