Users use a variety of methods to protect their data. The capabilities of modern operating systems allow you to prevent unwanted access to directories without using additional applications.
It is necessary
- - administrator account;
- - Dirlock.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn on your computer and wait for Windows XP to load. Log in using an administrator account. Remember that only this account will have access to encrypted folders. Create additional accounts with which other users will work with your computer.
Step 2
Now open the explorer menu and navigate to the desired folder. Select its icon with the right mouse button and select "Properties". Find and open the "Advanced" menu, which is located in the "General" tab.
Step 3
Activate the item "Encrypt content to protect data" by checking the box next to the item of the same name. Click the Ok button. In the menu that appears, select the "Use only for this folder" item.
Step 4
Remember that this encryption method is only secure if you are the sole administrator of the computer. The fact is that if there is a second account with similar rights, the user can change the password of your account and gain access to encrypted files.
Step 5
If you want to increase the protection of directories, use an additional program such as DirLock. Install this utility. Restart your computer.
Step 6
Now open the explorer menu and find the folder you want. Click on it with the right mouse button. Select Lock / UnLock. Enter the password twice to access this directory. If you want to apply the "Hidden" attribute to it, check the box next to the Hide item. Click the Ok button.
Step 7
The disadvantage of this utility is that you cannot open the folder without unlocking it. If you need to access the information, right-click on the directory icon and select UnLock. Enter your password and click the Ok button. Re-set the password after completing the required information.
