FTP is a popular protocol used to transfer data over the Internet. It is often used for downloading various files, distributing software, and accessing hosting for downloading data. Depending on your purpose, the FTP server can be opened in different programs.

Step 1
If you want to visit an FTP site, you can simply use your browser. Browsing the content of such resources is carried out in the same way as browsing regular sites. To do this, enter an address of the form ftp: // site in the address bar of your browser. If you need to enter a login and password to gain access, a corresponding notification and fields for entering data will appear in the program window.
Step 2
If you are a webmaster and want to access your hosting using FTP, you can use specialized programs. Among the most convenient applications for FTP access is CuteFTP. To access a remote file server, the file managers Total Commander and Far are also often used. Download and install the program you like according to the instructions on the screen.
Step 3
Run the installed program and go to its settings through the menu "Service" - "Options". In the appropriate item, enter your server name, port, username and password. This data should have been provided to you by the provider of your hosting services after registration.
Step 4
Make a connection to your FTP server using the corresponding function of the program, which is located on the toolbar or in the "Connection" menu - FTP server. If the connection is successful, you will see the content of your site.
Step 5
If the connection to the server failed, try activating the client option "Passive mode". This item is used on some servers for authorization.
