There are situations when it becomes necessary to compress DVD-format video. Perhaps you burn a lot of these movies to discs or dump to flash drives to transfer to another computer. Also, such a need arises when downloading videos over the Internet. And if you compress a video file correctly, its quality will decrease slightly.

Necessary

  • - computer;
  • - DVD Shrink program.

Instructions

Step 1

For subsequent operations, you will need DVD Shrink. You can download it for free from the Internet. You need to download one of the most recent versions of the program. DVD Shrink weighs less than two megabytes. After downloading the program, install it on your computer hard drive.

Step 2

Run the program. Select Open files from its main menu. The "Browse for Folder" window will appear. In this window, specify the path to the video file. Please note that the video must be in DVD format. This program does not work with other formats (if you choose a different video format, an error will simply occur). Select the required file and click OK in the browse window. Now in the right window of the program you need to select the compression parameters. In the Video section, click on the arrow and select a compression mode. You can get acquainted with the compression modes in detail by calling the program help (F1 key). If you do not want to study each of the modes in more detail, then select "Automatic".

Step 3

The Audio line contains a list of audio tracks. If you want the program to delete one of the audio tracks, then uncheck the box next to this track. This will further compress the selected file.

Step 4

After you have selected all the compression options for the file, select Backup from the toolbar. In the bottom line of the window that appears, click Browse and specify the folder in which the compressed copy of the video file will be saved. By clicking on the arrow near the top line, you can save the compressed files to your hard disk by selecting the Hard disk option, or you can save the video file in the ISO image file format. Choose the option to save the file that suits you. The second option will be preferable, since the ISO image of the disc can be quickly burned to a regular optical disc. When the options are selected, click OK. After the compression process is complete, the video file will be saved in the selected folder.
