Instructions

Step 1

Select the photo in which you would like to highlight the colored elements. It is desirable that the image consists of at least two large elements, for example, a flower and grass around, then the result will be more effective. In the photo, which shows just the sea or the sky, the color selection will not look so bright and interesting.

Step 2

Open the selected image in Photoshop. Please note that initially it must be colored.

Step 3

Duplicate the layer as follows: Layer → Duplicate Layer.

Step 4

Desaturate the newly created background by pressing Ctrl + shift + U. You will see that the image has been converted to black and white format.

Step 5

Decide what you want to highlight in the photo. For example, a flower against a background of grass. Select the eraser from the toolbar.

Step 6

Aim your chosen tool at the desired area and begin to wash gently and slowly. The previously discolored layer will begin to disappear in these places, and the colored petals of the alleged flower will appear on a black and white background.

Step 7

Run the eraser carefully so as not to touch the parts of the photo that should remain in black and white. To do this, select the correct tool size using the keys with square brackets.

Step 8

To make your picture look even more interesting and vivid, tone the discolored background. To do this, make the black and white background active.

Step 9

Press the key combination Ctrl + U. The "Hue" / "Saturation" adjustment dialog will pop up on the screen. At the bottom of the table, on the right side, you will see the item "Toning", next to which check the box.

Step 10

Now move the sliders in different directions, choosing a suitable tone for the black and white background.

Step 11

When finished, save your photo in the format you need.
