If you have ever compared a person and electronic devices that surround us, you probably found something in common. The greatest similarity is the presence of some constant amount of knowledge, in devices and devices this knowledge is called firmware. Some devices have to be periodically flashed.
Necessary
- - DVD drive;
- - boot floppy;
- - firmware files.
Instructions
Step 1
Firmware is a file that is used to update the software of a device. Most often it is loaded using a special program (flasher). The concept itself was formed from the expression "flashing the device's flash memory". This word also refers to the process of updating the system files of the device itself.
Step 2
Before proceeding with the procedure for "flashing" the dvd drive, you need to create a copy of the existing flash memory files - backup (back up). You can create a copy of the drive files using the Binflash program. After launching it, select the drive you want to work with and click the Dump button. In the window that opens, enter the name of the file to be saved and click the "Save" button.
Step 3
Programs that can be used to program the device exist both for the MS-DOS operating system and for systems of the Windows family. It is better to carry out the process of updating the drive from under MS-DOS. All files must be prepared before flashing. Insert a 3, 5 "floppy disk into the drive, open the" My Computer "window and select the" Format "option in the drive's context menu.
Step 4
In the floppy formatting window that opens, check the box next to "Create a bootable MS-DOS disk", then click the "Start" and "OK" buttons.
Step 5
Use the Internet to search for suitable update files: start your search from the official website of the drive manufacturer. The original files of the drive update are named original firmware.
Step 6
Unzip the downloaded update files and copy them to a floppy disk, excluding the Readme file. Restart your computer and click the Delete button.
Step 7
In the BIOS Setup menu that opens, place the floppy drive first in the boot list, press the F10 and Y keys on the keyboard. After restarting the computer (when a line like "A:>" appears), enter UPDATE. BAT and press Enter. If the system reports an update file not found, enter the dir command and then press the Enter key. Find update in the list of files and retype it.
Step 8
After loading the program that updated your drive, press any key, the message "Press any key to continue" will appear on the screen. After pressing the key, the drive tray should come out, and the message “Over Write Flash-ROM? (Y / N) ". Press the Y key.
Step 9
The flashing process takes about 2 minutes. If this process is successful, the tray will return to its place, and a message will appear on the screen with the firmware version and the name of your drive. Press the Reset button on the system unit to complete the update process.
