Step 1

Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the Windows XP operating system and go to the "My Computer" item to perform the procedure for creating a copy of the system file, which does not have an extension and is a hive of the system registry.

Step 2

Select the drive containing the operating system (by default - drive C:), and open the "Tools" menu in the top toolbar of the application window.

Select "Folder Options" and go to the "View" tab of the properties dialog box that opens.

Check the box next to "Show hidden files and folders" in the group "Hidden files and folders" and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking OK.

Step 5

Expand the Windows folder by double-clicking the mouse to open the "Properties" dialog and open the necessary folder of system files by the same double-click, or select a file not included in the folders.

Insert a blank or rewritable CD into the drive, or connect a removable USB drive.

Return to the main Start menu and go to My Computer.

Drag the non-extensible system file to be copied to the Devices with Removable Media (for a USB stick) or the Hard Drives group (for CD or DVD).
