The System file, which has no extension in the Windows XP operating system, is a registry hive, or system registry hive. Damage or absence of this file can lead to the inoperability of the entire system.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the Windows XP operating system and go to the "My Computer" item to perform the procedure for creating a copy of the system file, which does not have an extension and is a hive of the system registry.
Step 2
Select the drive containing the operating system (by default - drive C:), and open the "Tools" menu in the top toolbar of the application window.
Step 3
Select "Folder Options" and go to the "View" tab of the properties dialog box that opens.
Step 4
Check the box next to "Show hidden files and folders" in the group "Hidden files and folders" and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking OK.
Step 5
Expand the Windows folder by double-clicking the mouse to open the "Properties" dialog and open the necessary folder of system files by the same double-click, or select a file not included in the folders.
Step 6
Insert a blank or rewritable CD into the drive, or connect a removable USB drive.
Step 7
Return to the main Start menu and go to My Computer.
Step 8
Drag the non-extensible system file to be copied to the Devices with Removable Media (for a USB stick) or the Hard Drives group (for CD or DVD).
Step 9
Select the "Burn to CD" command and follow the wizard's recommendations (for CD or DVD) and wait until the copying process completes or return to the main "Start" menu again to perform an alternative operation of copying the system file.
Step 10
Go to Run and enter ntbackup in the Open field.
Step 11
Confirm the execution of the command to run the archiving utility by clicking OK and select the "Advanced mode" option.
Step 12
Go to the Archive tab of the dialog box that opens and apply the check box to the System State field.
Step 13
Confirm your choice by clicking the "Archive" button and go to the "Advanced" item.
Step 14
Check the box next to "Data validation after archiving" and select the "Normal" option under "Archive type".
Step 15
Confirm your choice by clicking the OK button and click the Archive button again to execute the command to create a copy.
