Video codecs are designed to play compressed multimedia files. If a file does not play, this can be solved by installing or removing a specific codec.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the Start button. Select "Settings" from its menu, then go to "Control Panel". Go to the settings of the operating system of your personal computer. Open a window with system utilities for configuring the system. Go to the settings item "Sounds and Multimedia". You will see the "Properties of sound and audio devices" window. Open the list of devices. Select "Audio" or "Video" depending on which codecs you want to remove.
Step 2
Select the required codec by clicking on it once with the left mouse button and click "Properties". You will see a tab that contains a list of all video codecs installed on your personal computer.
Step 3
Select the one to be deleted and click the "Delete" button, which is located below in the same window. For the deletion to be successful, i.e. so that later when playing various multimedia files there will be no problems, restart your computer. This must be done even if the system did not display the corresponding notification window.
Step 4
Hold down the Shift key and select a specific group or all files from the previously mentioned menu to remove all video codecs. Please note that after this it will be extremely difficult to play multimedia files on your personal computer, so you should think about whether you need to delete all video codecs. This should be done unless you want to clear the site for the installation of new ones. Then remove all old codecs and restart your computer.
Step 5
Then insert a disc with new codecs and install them. Codec versions are updated frequently, so check the internet to see which ones are currently considered the most practical and up-to-date. Download them. Run the installation file. After the installation is complete, restart your computer.
