The easiest and most logical way to eliminate the problem of a catastrophic lack of hard disk space is to connect an additional hard drive. This process can be done in two ways.
Instructions
Step 1
If you plan to use a second hard drive for storing movies, music and other files or programs that you do not use constantly, then purchase an external hard drive. This allows you to always have the files you need at hand and makes it easier to connect this device. Naturally, it is better not to install games and programs on the external hard drive in order to prevent them from interfering with their work.
Step 2
If you need an internal hard drive, then first determine the type of its connection to the computer. Open the lid of the system unit and examine the cables present. If there is a wide flat cable from the motherboard, then you need a hard drive with an IDE port. The narrow black connector indicates that you need a hard drive with a SATA link.
Step 3
Purchase a new hard drive with a suitable channel to connect to the motherboard. Please be aware that some computers can support both types of hard drives. SATA hard drives have a higher processing speed than devices with an IDE port.
Step 4
Turn off your computer and open the system unit. Connect the new hard drive to a suitable ribbon cable. Turn on your computer and hold down the Delete key. After entering the BIOS menu, open the Boot Device item and go to the Boot Options menu. Make sure your old hard drive is the first device in the download list. Restart your computer and wait for the operating system to start.
Step 5
Open the "My Computer" menu and right-click on the new hard drive icon. Select "Format". Specify the file system for this disk and click the "Start" button. Wait for the formatting process of the new hard drive to complete. Now open its properties and select "Defragment". Once completed, the hard drive is ready for use.
