Sometimes you want to make sure that documents on your computer can only be accessed by certain people or only yourself. Putting a password on a document is one of the possible solutions in this situation.

Necessary
- - computer / laptop
- - the document that you want to secure with a password
Instructions
Step 1
Select the document on which you want to put a password. It can be any document such as Word or Excel. Go to the File tab of the main menu.

Step 2
In MS Word 2010, you will be presented with the Details tab. This section contains the item Permissions. By clicking on the button next to it, a menu will open in which you can select the necessary actions to protect the document. In this case, we select Protect with a password

Step 3
Clicking on Protect with password will bring up a new window for encrypting the document. In it you need to enter the password that will be used when opening the document.

Step 4
After you have entered the password, click OK. Next, a window will open to confirm the password.

Step 5
There is another way to put a password on a document. To do this, you also need to go to the File tab of the main menu and click Save As. A new window will open in which there will be a Service button.

Step 6
By clicking on Service you will find a menu with actions to choose from. We are interested in the General Settings tab.

Step 7
After clicking on General parameters, a new window for entering the password will open. In this window, you can set a password not only for opening the document, but also for the ability to change it. After entering the password (s), you will also be prompted to repeat the passwords.

Step 8
After all the manipulations, when you open a document, you will be shown a field for entering a password. If you set a password for the ability to change the document, you will have to enter two passwords. If you do not want to change anything in the document, then you can open it in reading mode.
