You bought yourself a new hard drive. Installed, connected. If you have this hard drive as additional storage, then there is no need to share it. But if you are going to install an OS there, it is better to split it into 2 parts - this is the best choice. The first local disk will serve to install the operating system and programs into it, and the second will store everything else. Now how to do it.
Instructions
Step 1
First, we need to choose a special program. I prefer Acronis Disc Director. This program is not difficult to understand, it works correctly with all data on the disk. In addition, the "Director" is often integrated into bootable disks, so that it can be used regardless of the OS.
Step 2
Install the program, run it. In the window we will see a brief overview of our disk.
Step 3
To create a second logical drive, we need to shrink the first. To do this, click on the section with the right mouse button and move the cursor over the item "Resize". Click on the left mouse button, and a window opens on the screen in which we resize the disk by moving the slider or manually typing. We look at the column "Free space after" and see that we have freed up space for the second logical disk.
Step 4
Now we create the same disk. Right-click in an empty space that appeared a minute ago, select the item "Create section". I advise you to choose the NTFS file system and make sure that after creating a logical disk we do not have any extra unused space left. Although, by default, the program does not leave such a place.
Step 5
We have marked all the processes, now we need to start them. To do this, activate the "Process launch flag". After completing all operations, close the program, and restart the computer. After rebooting, we admire the two logical disks and are glad that we did not have to lose a drop of data for this.
