If the situation has developed in such a way that the cleaning discs no longer help the dvd drive, then a good old friend named a screwdriver comes to the rescue. The drive has a simple design, so it will not be difficult to disassemble and clean it yourself. How to do this, read on.

Instructions

Step 1

Unscrew the side panel of the system unit. Disconnect all wires from the actuator. Then take a screwdriver and unscrew the four screws that hold it in the frame of the system unit. Remove dvd-rom. Take a thin long needle. Locate a small round hole on the front of the drive. Insert the needle there. Then the tray will come out.

Step 2

Remove the front panel. To do this, gently bend back the three plastic latches that hold it on the sides. Be careful as these latches break very easily. Pull out the tray. Locate the four screws on the underside. To remove the metal shroud, unscrew the four screws located at the bottom. Remove the metal shroud to disassemble the dvd-rom.

Step 3

Find the carriage on which the laser head moves. Next to it, you will find a mechanism with which the tray slides out. To remove the rest of the parts, disconnect the data and power cables. In order not to damage them, first loosen the plastic fasteners that you will find directly on the connectors of the cables.

Step 4

Remove the belt from the pulleys to disassemble the gearbox. Then unscrew the screws and remove the mounting plate to disassemble the DVD-ROM. Remove the cogwheels and gears. Examine them carefully. If they are damaged, replace them with serviceable ones, if not, then return them to their original place. Sometimes the failure of the drive may be too serious for you to rest it yourself, for example, the laser head will be damaged. You won't be able to do anything here. If the malfunction consists in mixing gears or disrupting the correct operation of the tray mechanism, then you can easily fix it yourself. After all the faults have been eliminated, reassemble the DVD drive in the reverse order to that described in the instructions above.
