Your dvd drive may one day fail, so much so that even cleaning discs won't be able to help. In this case, you should not throw it away, just disassemble the drive and clean it. Perhaps it will work; otherwise, you will understand the dvd drives and get some spare parts.
Necessary
screwdriver
Instructions
Step 1
First you need to unscrew the side panel of your system unit. Then disconnect all the wires from the drive, then take a thin screwdriver and unscrew the four screws that hold it, in fact, in the frame of the system unit. Now remove the actuator from the housing, then take a needle that is thin and long (a straightened paper clip may work) and find a small round hole on the face of the actuator. Insert a needle / paper clip into it, then you can pull out the disc tray.
Step 2
Remove the front panel of the drive by gently bend the plastic latches (there should be 3 of them) holding it on the sides. Be careful - the latches are very fragile. Pull out the disc tray, locate the four screws on the underside. To get rid of the metal shroud, unscrew these screws, then remove the shroud.
Step 3
Now find the carriage (the laser head moves along it), next to it you will see a mechanism that ensures the movement of the tray. To remove other parts of the drive, first disconnect the data and power cables. To avoid damaging them, first loosen the plastic fasteners that can be found on the connectors of the cables.
Step 4
Remove the belt from the pulleys in order to disassemble the gearbox. Next, unscrew the screws, and then remove the mounting plate. Now remove the gears and cogwheels, inspect them carefully. If these parts are damaged, replace them with similar serviceable ones, otherwise simply return to their places.
Step 5
Drive failure is sometimes so severe that repairs can only be done by professionals. For example, the laser head may be defective. There is nothing you can do to make the DVD drive work. If the gears have shifted or the work of the tray extension mechanism is disrupted, here you yourself can figure it out. After correcting all faults, if possible, reassemble the actuator in the reverse order of disassembly.
