Disassembly of a laptop is divided into complete and incomplete. The first is carried out when replacing memory modules, hard disk and optical drive. The second is required to service the remaining nodes of the computer.
Instructions
Step 1
Regardless of whether you want to disassemble the laptop, complete or incomplete, before starting work, be sure to disconnect the power supply and all peripheral devices from the machine, and then remove the battery.
Step 2
For partial disassembly, unscrew all screws holding the cover over the memory modules and remove it. Then push back the levers securing the hard disk and optical drive cassettes, and then pull the cassettes towards you. Remove the screws that secure the drives in the cassettes and remove them. Replace any components that are faulty or in need of modernization, and then reassemble the machine in the reverse order. If only one component needs to be replaced, it is not necessary to remove the rest.
Step 3
To clean the processor heatsink, some laptops require complete disassembly, while others have a special compartment for this. In the second case, unscrew the screws holding the cover of this compartment, remove it, and then blow out the radiator. Then replace the cover.
Step 4
Begin a complete disassembly by removing all components accessible during a partial disassembly. Then remove the two covers located above the screen hinges. Pry up the bezel between the screen and the keyboard and carefully separate it. Remove the screws holding the connector that connects the shield and disconnect it from the motherboard. Then, after removing four more screws, remove the shield itself. The WiFi antenna cable will continue to connect the laptop to the screen - you will get to its connector later. Lift the keyboard and disconnect its ribbon cable. There may be additional slots for memory modules under it - remove them too.
Step 5
Remove all screws located under the keyboard and on the back of the laptop. Separate the top cover, gently lift it up and disconnect the touchpad cable. After that, additional screws will become available that secure the motherboard. Unscrew them as well. Remove the motherboard and, if necessary, clean the processor heatsink. Replace defective parts (processor, WiFi module, Bluetooth, video card, etc.). The procedure for replacing the processor is not much different from that in a desktop computer (if the processor is inserted into the socket, and not soldered). Don't forget to update your thermal paste afterwards.
Step 6
Reassemble the machine in reverse order, remembering to connect all the cables and screw in all the screws. Turn on your computer and test it.
