Application dialog boxes are not standalone programs and are designed to request some parameters from the user. Most of the dialog boxes are modal, which prevents you from continuing to work with the application until you have finished working with the dialog box.
Instructions
Step 1
Do not try to open any dialog box yourself. This operation is performed by the application or the operating system automatically when it becomes necessary to request some data from the user.
Step 2
Determine whether you want to save your changes to the application or operating system settings before closing the dialog box.
Step 3
Click the "x" button in the upper right corner of the window in the title bar if you do not want to save the selected changes. An alternative way to close the dialog box in such cases is to press the Esc function key.
Step 4
Click OK to save your changes to the application or operating system settings. An alternative way to close the dialog box in such cases is to press the function key Enter.
Step 5
Use the Apply button (if available) to save the selected changes to the application or operating system settings.
Step 6
Remember that choices made by the user take effect only after the dialog box is closed, thus avoiding ill-considered or erroneous decisions.
Step 7
Use the "x" button in the upper right corner of the window when the OK button disappears. This behavior can be caused by the need to immediately apply a change to the selected parameters. Using the shutdown button in such cases means that the settings have already changed irreversibly and the previous settings will not be restored.
Step 8
Use the Yes and No buttons to confirm or deny the question asked by the application or operating system.
Step 9
Use the Help button for more information on the suggested action to change the settings.
Step 10
Select the Cancel button to undo the action that caused the dialog box to appear. This will close the window and restore the application or operating system settings.
