Sometimes ICQ is more likely to receive spam than messages from friends and acquaintances. Basically, such spam messages are harmless - they can only take a few minutes of your time spent reading the letter, further deleting it and closing the uninvited guest's tab. But sometimes, in addition to the advertising text, spam messages contain links to various resources, by going to which you can get to the virus programs.

ICQ or QIP client

Instructions

Step 1

Launch the program client (ICQ or QIP) on your computer. In the QIP client, in the left column of the tabs with settings for various program options, find the "Anti-spam" tab. Click on the tab icon and you will see a new program window with anti-spam settings. Here are the "Options" and "For those who are not on my contact list" sections.

Step 2

In the first section, check the box "Notify when a message is blocked" - this protection function, of course, does not provide, but will keep you informed about all received and blocked spam messages. In the same section, find the item "Accept messages only from those on my list" - this way you are guaranteed to protect yourself from spam and unknown contacts, but you can skip messages from people you care about.

Step 3

In the "For those who are not in my contact list" section, check the box "Do not accept links to websites" and also check the box "Enable anti-spam bot". This setting very well protects you from receiving messages from bots and spammers, and in its work it applies a very interesting and clever principle: an unknown contact who sent you a message is automatically sent an easy question like "How will the Earth be in English?" or "How much is 2 + 2". A real person, of course, will answer the question, but a bot and a spammer will not. And only after the contact has answered your question, you will receive his message.

Step 4

If you have the ICQ client installed, then in the menu section find the item "My tools", go to this section and click on the line "Parameters" in it. In this section, you need to open the "Advanced" subsection, and then - "Privacy".

Step 5

Here is a window with settings for the anti-spam program. Again, you will see several items with the settings "Allow not my contacts", "My contacts are not visible in my profile" and "Who can view my friends". In the first paragraph, tick both options: "Send me messages" and "Call me". In the second and third paragraphs, you can mark the options of your choice, since they are not responsible for spam protection, but for your privacy.
