CDs can get dirty and scratched with frequent use. Of course, the simplest solution is to be careful with the discs initially so that they last as long as possible. If the disc has already gotten to you dusty or accidentally dirty, then try cleaning it.

Necessary

  • - soft tissue;
  • - a can of compressed air;
  • - either alcohol and soft cloth.

Instructions

Step 1

If the disc contains significant contamination, such as dried droplets, it may be difficult to read it in the drive or music player. If you wish, purchase a special set for cleaning and polishing discs and use it.

Step 2

In the absence of special cleaning agents, gently wash the disc in plain water and dry or wipe. Wipe the discs with a soft cloth, such as flannel, that will not leave marks on their surface. Wipe the disc from the center outward, avoiding circular motions.

Step 3

If a solvent cannot be dispensed with, use denatured alcohol (isopropyl or ethyl alcohol) or a solution of alcohol and water. Apply rubbing alcohol to a soft cloth and wipe the disc using the above method, from the center to the outside. Do not use solvents based on petroleum products (nail polish remover, acetone, kerosene) and other aggressive and unpredictable products - this will only permanently damage the disc and make it unusable.

Step 4

If the disc is just dusty, use a can of compressed air. It can be purchased at any computer hardware store. In this case, you will clean the CD with a jet of air.

Step 5

If your problem is scratches on the readable surface of the disc, then this is a more difficult situation. Of course, you can try polishing the disc by wiping it down with a silk cloth. Some also use car polish or regular toothpaste. But it is impossible to remove deep scratches from the disc without harm to it in any case. Therefore, if the damage is serious and interferes with the reading of information, it is better to immediately copy the disc and write the data to a new blank disc. If the disc is unreadable, use programs for working with unreadable CDs, such as CDRoller.
