The way a file is displayed is influenced, among other things, by the attribute assigned to it. An attribute such as "Hidden" makes the file invisible, however, the file continues to remain in the directory in which it was saved. To detect hidden files and folders, you need to configure their display accordingly.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the Folder Options component. To do this, press the Windows key or the "Start" button, select "Control Panel" from the menu and click in the "Appearance and Themes" category on the "Folder Options" icon. The specified component can be called in another way: open any folder on your computer, in the "Tools" menu, select "Folder Options".
Step 2
A new dialog box will open. Go to the "View" tab in it and in the "Additional parameters" group move down using the scroll bar. Find the section "Hidden files and folders" and set the marker in the field opposite the item "Show hidden files and folders". Click on the "Apply" button for the settings to take effect. Close the properties window.
Step 3
With this setting, all hidden files and folders will have semi-transparent icons. To configure the normal display of a file, right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu. In the window that opens, go to the "General" tab and uncheck the "Hidden" field in the "Attributes" group. Apply the new settings and close the window with the OK button or the [x] icon.
Step 4
If you do not want to change the settings, you can find a hidden file in another way, but for this you need to have at least minimal information about the file, for example, know its name, creation date, modification, or type. Call the "Search" command through the "Start" menu or open any folder on your computer and click on the "Search" icon on the top panel of the window. If this button is not there, right-click on the folder menu bar and mark the "Regular buttons" item in the drop-down menu with a marker.
Step 5
In the search box, enter information about the file that you have. Click on the line-button "Additional options" and set the marker in the field "Search in hidden files and folders". Click on the "Find" button. After the list of files found by request is generated, you will see that hidden files have a semi-transparent appearance. Perform the required actions with the file you are looking for. Despite the fact that such a file will be displayed in the search window, without the appropriate settings, you still cannot see it in the directory where it is saved.
