Very often, files that we urgently need disappear somewhere. We get scared and think that there is no way to find them. But in reality, finding the file is much easier than it sounds.
Instructions
Step 1
Search for a file by name. If you know exactly what the file is called, then the search will be quick. If you remember only a part of the name, then this is enough - as a result of the search, all files with these characters in their name will be displayed. Click Start - Find - Files and Folders. It's best to use the most general search first: select Files and Folders. Enter the full name or part of it. By default, the search program searches all disks on your computer at once, but if you know where the file you are looking for may be, you can select the search location yourself. Click Find. As a result, files matching the search criteria will appear. These files can be opened directly from the search box.
Step 2
Search for a file by date. The more accurate the date, the more efficient and faster the search will be. Select Search for documents (text files, spreadsheets, etc.). Next, select the date of the last changes in the file and click Search. You can also add additional search criteria, such as part of a name or a suggested location. Additionally, you can add the date the file was created. When you have listed everything you remembered about the file, including its size, click Find.
Step 3
Search for a file by type. If you've forgotten the name of the file, and also the last time you used it, then you probably remember the type of file, for example, whether it was a spreadsheet or a text document. In this case, it makes sense to search by file type. Choose the most general search - Files and folders. Next, select additional search options. Select the file type from the list. You can also choose where to look for the file. Click Find.
Step 4
Search by file size. One of the most important characteristics of a file is its size. Most often this applies to music or video files. You need to enter a search criterion - file size - and select the required one from the list provided.
