In Windows XP, as in other versions of this OS, it is possible to password-protect the logon of a specific user or group of users. Such protection is implemented by means of the system itself, but there is another option, in which the authorization system provided in the BIOS (Basic Input / Output System) is used. Below is the sequence of steps to activate both options.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the operating system element that gives access to the user account settings. This can be done, for example, by clicking on the avatar in the main menu, and in the window that opens, clicking the "Home" button. Another way is to select the "Control Panel" line in the main menu and follow the "User Accounts" link.
Step 2
Click on the icon associated with the account for which you want to set a password, and select the task with the appropriate wording - "Create a password". The component will show a form of three fields - in two of them, enter the password, and in the third, type a phrase that will help you remember it if the need arises. Finally, click on the "Create Password" button.
Step 3
To use the authorization system built into the BIOS, initiate an OS reboot, wait until this basic system starts to work, and when the screen prompts you to press a key to enter the settings, press Delete. It is possible that in your version another key is used for this - f1, f2, f10, esc or combinations of ctrl + alt, ctrl + alt="Image" + esc, ctrl + alt="Image" + ins. It is also possible that you will not wait for the appearance of the inscription with the invitation to the settings, or it will flash too quickly. In this case, be guided by the LED indicators of the keyboard (Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) - they should blink just before the moment when it will be necessary to press a key to enter the BIOS settings.
Step 4
In the settings panel, select BIOS Setting Password and press the Enter button. This will lead to the appearance on the screen of a field for entering a password - enter it, and then do it again when the program asks for confirmation. Save your changes by choosing Save and Exit Setup from the menu. It is possible that in your BIOS version, the password is set through the sections of the panel named Security or Advanced BIOS Features.
