If you are using a Windows operating system, inserting the CD into the CD-ROM drive will open it automatically. But sometimes, for various reasons, autorun can be disabled. To restore it, you should start the corresponding service or correct the system registry lines.
Instructions
Step 1
Autoplay for CDs is usually disabled for security reasons - in this case, there is no threat of automatic download of malicious software. Nevertheless, on disks with programs, especially licensed ones, automatically loaded virus and Trojans are quite rare. Therefore, disabling autorun gives the user quite a few advantages, but brings a lot of trouble.
Step 2
To enable autostart, the corresponding service must be started. If you are using Windows XP, open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools" - "Services". Find the Shell Hardware Detection service, double-click it. In the window that opens, set the startup type - "Auto". Start the service by clicking the Start button. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive, it should start automatically.
Step 3
If you are using the Windows 7 operating system, to start the service, open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System and Security" - "Administrative Tools" - "Services". The service itself starts exactly the same way as in Windows XP.
Step 4
You can customize the behavior of the drive when you insert a CD with certain files. To do this, open "My Computer", right-click the desired drive and select "Properties" in the context menu that opens. In the window that opens, select the "Autostart" tab. Next, select the file type from the drop-down list and assign the desired drive action. Confirm the change by clicking "Apply". After that, configure the next file type, etc.
Step 5
In the event that for some reason you cannot enable autorun, check the parameter responsible for it in the system registry. To do this, start the registry editor: "Start" - "Run", enter the command regedit and press Enter. Next, open the registry line: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesCDRom and select the CDRom folder. In the right part of the window, look at the value of the Autorun parameter, it should be equal to 1. If it is equal to 0, right-click the parameter, select "Change". Enter 1 in the Value field.
Step 6
If the value is already 1, you should look at the registry line HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer. Select the Explorer folder and look at the value of the NoDriveTypeAutoRun parameter, it should be equal to 91. If it is different, right-click the parameter, select "Change" and enter 91 in the "Value" field.
