With the release of the iPhone 7, everyone's familiar mechanical Home button has changed to a touch-sensitive one. For obvious reasons, it does not respond to pressing when the mobile device is turned off. But many users know that on older models of Apple smartphones, key combinations using the Home button performed important functions, including launching DFU mode.
DFU mode features
Engineers from Cupertino have implemented a special mode of operation of the iOS operating system in smartphones. DFU-mode (device firmware update) must be used to update or restore a mobile device in case of system failures. For example, when a device update fails or a fatal error occurs that prevents the system from functioning correctly.
Don't confuse DFU mode with another useful iOS feature - Recovery mode. Both algorithms restore the system, but at completely different levels. Recovery mode can be compared to rolling back Windows to a previously created restore point. That is, the settings and parameters are reset without changing the system files. In DFU mode, system files are deleted and reinstalled, similar to reinstalling Windows on a computer personnel.
It is possible to start DFC mode only when the smartphone is connected to the computer using the original network cable. It is not worth putting a mobile device into a special recovery mode unless absolutely necessary and correct operation of the operating system.
How to start DFU mode
With the change of generations of smartphones, the methodology has remained largely similar. The main difference is the combination of keys used. To start the DFU mode on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus mobile devices, you need to do the following:
1. Using the original network cable, connect your smartphone to your PC and launch iTunes.
2. Turn off the iPhone by holding the screen lock button (also the Power button).
3. Hold down the screen lock and volume down buttons, hold in this position for at least ten seconds.
4. Release the screen lock button while keeping the volume down button pressed. Hold the device in this position until iTunes displays a corresponding notification on the PC monitor.
An important feature. In DFU mode, the gadget display must remain off. If the corporate logo of the company or iTunes is highlighted, then the smartphone has not activated a special mode. It is necessary to repeat the above steps.
Upon completion of the algorithms embedded in the software, the device will automatically exit the DFU mode. If you want to return the smartphone to the user mode manually, you must simultaneously fix the screen lock and volume down buttons in the clamped position in the same way. After at least ten seconds, release the buttons and turn on the gadget in the standard way.
