If, when you connect a USB drive to your computer, the system displays a message that this device can run faster, it means that you have outdated drivers. It could also be related to the connection of devices to the front panel ports.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the USB driver is installed on your computer. You can view its version in the list of the Add / Remove Programs menu in the computer control panel. It is easier to check for its presence - when the device is connected to the appropriate interface, the system will display a message stating that the device is not recognized.
Step 2
If you see a message on your computer stating that your USB device may be faster, download and install the USB 2.0 driver. You can also use an installation disc for equipment that works with this interface, for example, a disc for a phone or a player, software for a printer, and so on. Make sure that the version of the driver you need is located there, it is usually found on disks from 2008 and later.
Step 3
Try changing the connection port of the device. When working with ports on the front panel of the system unit, a decrease in the speed of storage devices is often noticeable, this is due to the fact that they are supplied with less voltage. Remove the USB stick from the computer and use other connectors.
Step 4
If there is a connection to the USB port of the computer with an additional cable (for example, various extension cords), eliminate it, because often the reason for the decrease in the speed of the flash drive lies precisely in the poor-quality connecting wires.
Step 5
The same applies to players and mobile devices: try to use the original cables that come with the equipment. The use of poor-quality wires not only leads to a decrease in speed, but also to a faster failure of USB ports and devices connected with it. This is rare, but it does happen, so it's best not to risk the equipment.
