Large hard disks can be conveniently divided into several partitions for subsequent installation of the operating system on one of them and storage of the necessary files on the other. There are several ways to create an additional partition on your hard drive.
Instructions
Step 1
You can create an additional hard disk partition during the installation of the operating system. At one of the first stages of the installation, the program will ask the question on which partition the operating system should be installed. Then select the "Create Section" command. When creating a partition, select its volume (for Windows, 20% of the total hard disk space will be sufficient), as well as the file system in which it will be formatted. The remaining disk space can be left for an additional partition by dividing it into as many parts as you like during the installation process in the same way. After completing the Windows installation, go to the My Computer folder and format all other partitions in the required file systems.
Step 2
An additional hard disk partition can also be created after installing the operating system. To do this, you need special software, such as Norton PartitionMagic. Install the program on your computer and run it in order to start creating an additional partition.
On the right side of the main window, click on the "Create a new partition" button. Then, in the next window, click the Next button. After that, select the hard drive on which you want to create an additional partition and click Next. Set the required size of the new partition, the letter of the future volume, as well as its file system. The additional partition will be created by splitting free space from the existing partition. In the last window that opens, a diagram of the state of the hard disk before and after the operation will be displayed.
Step 3
To start the operation to create an additional hard disk partition, click the Apply button located in the lower left corner of the program. Depending on the version of the application, the creation of a new section will start after a system reboot, or immediately. never interrupt the partitioning operation or turn off the power to the computer. Otherwise, your hard drive will be damaged.
After restarting the computer, a new partition will appear on the hard disk, which you can use at your discretion.
