The settings of the uTorrent or BitTorrent programs allow you to optimize the process of downloading files and their distribution. Correctly setting the necessary parameters, you can make the work in the program more convenient, as well as significantly increase the speed of information exchange.
General settings
Open uTorrent or BitTorrent software. In the upper menu of the program there is a button "Settings", click on it. The main settings of the program are available in the drop-down menu. Most of them relate to the formation of the view of the working area of the program.
The first item in this list of settings is the Toolbar item. This panel appears at the top of the desktop as a string and is designed to search for and add a torrent file both from the local computer and via a URL. If you download a torrent file using separate third-party systems, then you do not need this menu, you can disable it with the F4 key.
The second item in the general settings menu enables and disables detailed information about the torrent that is currently highlighted. This information includes a list of downloaded files, information about download start and end times, peer list, torrent rating, data transfer rate as a graph, and the download status of each file. This part of the desktop is usually very useful.
The following settings items allow you to display items such as the status bar, sidebar, packages, and connected devices. Among all the above-mentioned components of the program, the sidebar and the status bar are most often used. The sidebar allows you to navigate to different groups of torrent files, because some files may be in the download state, some in the "Sending" state, etc.
Pay attention to the last item of general settings "Shutdown Windows". Hover over it to open a pop-up submenu. This item of settings allows you to set methods of controlling the mode of operation of the program and the computer, depending on the state of downloads and distributions of files.
Special program settings
In the "Settings" menu, click on the "Program Settings" button. A window will open in which you can set more subtle parameters of the program. Some of these parameters relate to setting up the interface and interaction with the user, while the other part allows you to set certain connection settings. Go to the "Speed" section. If your internet connection is not unlimited, then it is worth limiting the maximum upload speed. You can also set a rate limit for uTP connections. Increase the maximum number of connections as well as the maximum number of connected peers by one torrent. This will significantly reduce the download time of files.
