ID is an identification number assigned to equipment. If we are talking about a computer operating in a local network, then the ID usually means the MAC address of the network card. Thanks to this unique number, the computer is recognized by other nodes on the network.

Instructions

Step 1

To complete all of the following steps, you will need administrator rights. Call the program launch window by pressing Win + R or select the "Run" option in the "Start" menu. Enter the cmd command.

Step 2

In the Command Prompt window, write ping IP_comp or ping name_comp, where IP_comp and name_comp are the IP address or network name of the other computer. After exchanging packages, enter the arp - a command. The line "Physical address" will display the MAC address of the network card of the computer you are interested in. Arp is a protocol for determining a MAC address from a given IP address. Pre-exchange of packets is necessary because the arp utility fetches the host information from the cache.

Step 3

There is another way. At the command line, enter nbtstat –a name_comp or nbtstat –A IP_comp. This command displays the table of NetBIOS protocol names of the remote computer. In the line "Board address", the command returns the network identifier of the host.

Step 4

You can get information about the ID of the network card of a computer located on any network segment using the Windows getmac utility. Write getmac / s IP_comp to the command line. The system may ask you to enter the network administrator password. If you do not know the password, then you will not be able to "punch" the computer ID from another segment.

Step 5

To obtain data about a remote computer, you can use third-party programs - for example, the free LanSpy network scanner. You can download it on the developer's website

Step 6

The program displays the domain name of the computer, MAC address, information about connected users, security settings, open files and ports, and many other useful information. However, if you try to scan the office network with it, the administrator may not approve of your initiative.
