Instructions

Step 1

Open a graphics editor and create a new document. To do this, click the File tab and New in it, or press Ctrl + N. Give the image the exact dimensions, if necessary, press Enter. To open an existing document, press Ctrl + Sh. Turn on the Layers Panel by pressing F7 if there is no Layers Palette in the Photoshop workspace.

Step 2

Create a layer using the Layer tab. Click New (New) in this tab and then Layer (Layer). In the dialog box that opens, give the layer a name in the Name field (Name), change the Opacity (Opacity) or Blending Mode (Mode). If you need to select a layer, define its color in the Color field. Click OK. The layer will appear in the layers palette.

Step 3

Click on the arrow / arrow with stripes in the window for working with layers. An arrow / arrow with stripes is in the upper right corner. In the menu that opens, select New Layer. In the layers palette, click on the second button from the right, to the left of the small image of the trash can. The button looks like a sheet of paper with a folded corner.

Step 4

In this case, the dialog box will not appear, but the layer will be created and will have the default settings. The background of the layer will be transparent and the blending mode will be set to Normal. To rename a layer, double click on Layer 1 (Layer 1). Type in a new name.

Step 5

To create an empty layer without filling, press Shift + Ctrl + N,. Select the required options in the dialog box and click OK.

Step 6

To paste a copy of a layer (for example, the background), right-click on the layer and click Duplicate Layer. In the Destination field, you can select the file open in Photoshop where you want to insert the layer. Click OK.

Step 7

To insert a layer from one document to another, place the document windows side by side. Click on the layer of one document to activate it. Do not release the left mouse button. Drag onto the second document and adjust the position of the layer.
