Restarting the computer in safe mode is used to remove or replace some drivers or system files, edit the registry, or find out the reasons for the malfunctioning of OS components. Windows provides a choice of several options for limiting the functionality of the system when working in safe mode.
Instructions
Step 1
Click on the "Shutdown" command in the main menu (on the "Start" button) and then select the "Restart computer" option in the window that appears. If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, then immediately select the restart command from the drop-down list.
Step 2
Wait for the start of a new computer boot cycle, when lines with information about the manufacturer, checking memory chips, information about BIOS settings, etc. will appear on the display. Then the screen will clear and you will need to have time to press the F8 function key in the upper row of keyboard buttons. You may be prompted to press this key on the screen, but not always. The OS has the ability to configure the boot protocol in such a way that this prompt appears without fail, and the system startup is suspended for a specified time while waiting for a click.
Step 3
Choose from a dozen or more options from the menu the type of Safe Mode you want. The mouse driver has not yet been loaded, so moving between the menu lines is possible using the arrow keys. When the NUM LOCK mode is enabled, you can also use the buttons on the numeric keypad. If you select the "Safe mode" line, then only the drivers for the main devices (mouse, keyboard, disks, basic video adapter, monitor) and standard system services will be loaded. Loading network connections in this option is not provided. Network services and drivers will be added to this basic option if you select the appropriate menu line - "Safe mode with loading network drivers." And by selecting the line "Safe mode with command line support" you can disable operating system graphical interface.
Step 4
Choose one of the other options if you decide not to boot in Safe Mode. For example, if you select Last Known Good Configuration from the menu, the OS uses the registry data saved during the last normal shutdown of the computer to start. Alternatively, you can select the "Reboot" option in this menu if you want to return to the BIOS again. There is also "Normal Windows boot" in the menu.
Step 5
Press the Enter button when the selection is made and the computer will resume booting in the mode indicated by this menu.
