Instructions

Step 1

If your computer is running Windows XP (or earlier), open any Windows Explorer window. This can be the My Computer window or any folder, for example.

Step 2

In the menu, select the "Tools" section, and then the "Folder Options" command. This will give you access to the system settings, with the help of which you can enable one or another type of display of files and folders on your computer.

Step 3

In the dialog box that opens in front of you, click the "View" tab, and then check the box next to the "Show hidden files and folders" system command. After that, click the "OK" button to apply the changes. From now on, all invisible folders will be displayed along with the rest.

Step 4

If your computer is running Windows Vista or 7, the procedure is different. Open any Explorer window, click the "Organize" button on the panel and select "Folder and Search Options" from the context menu. Then follow the steps described in the previous step.

Step 5

After turning on the display of hidden items, you can go to find a folder that was previously hidden. If the folder is in a location you know, such as on your desktop, just look closely at the contents of that area.

Step 6

If you don't know the exact location of the folder, search. To do this, open the Start menu and, if you are using Windows 7 or Vista, enter the folder name or at least part of it in the search bar. If your operating system is XP (or earlier), go to the "Search" section by opening the "Start" menu and enter the name of the folder you are looking for in the corresponding field.

Step 7

After you get the search results, select your folder from the list. Please note that its appearance (and content too) will be a little fuzzy - this is how all hidden elements look in Windows.
