If several people work at the same computer, it may be necessary to block one of them from the ability to run executable files, i.e. files with the extension exe. To do this, it is enough to use the standard tools of the Windows operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
To block the launch of executable files on the local computer for individual users, the NTFS file system must be installed on it. You need administrator rights. Open the folder that contains the executable file, go to the "Tools" menu, click "Folder Options" and go to the "View" tab. Uncheck the box next to "Use Basic Sharing …".
Step 2
Right-click on the executable file icon, select "Properties" and go to the "Security" tab. Select the user you want to prevent the file from running and check the box next to Read and Execute. If you need to add a user to the list, click the "Add" button.
Step 3
For more fine-tuning, click "Advanced", in the "Permissions" tab, mark the user, click "Change" and check the boxes for the actions that you allow or prohibit to perform with the file.
Step 4
The Security tab will not be available if Windows Home Edition is installed on your computer. Reboot your computer. After a short beep, press the F8 key until the boot options window appears. Choose "Safe Mode", log in as an administrator and proceed as described above.
Step 5
If the check boxes or the Delete button are not available, in the Permissions tab, clear the Inherit from parent … check box. Or go to the "Effective Permissions" tab and check the boxes for the actions that will be available to each of the users. Select users using the "Select" button. Now, when trying to run an unauthorized program, the user will receive a system message "Access denied …"
