Installing a patch is one of the first skills that differentiates an experienced computer user from a beginner. This skill allows you to constantly update the version of the program and thus always have up-to-date equipment.

Instructions

Step 1

Check the auto patch function. It exists in most mass-use programs: Skype, Opera, Adobe Flash Player. The autopatch works as follows: every time you start the program, it contacts the main server with files via the Internet and checks for updates. If there is one, the program will give you a message on the screen asking you to download and install the new version. The download will take place in the background, after which the program will ask you for permission to restart. The restarted window will already be the "patched" version of your software.

Step 2

Find the installer. Most often, for the convenience of users, patches (for example, for computer games) are packed into installers. All you need is to download such a file (from 2 to 150 mb in size) and run it. The installer will appear on the screen, following the instructions of which you will install the patch. There is, however, a pitfall: you need to find out on which version of the game (program) this package is installed. There are two types of patches: local and general. Local upgrades the version by one point - from 1.0 to 1.1. General, however, implies that it can be installed on any version of the game and it includes all previous add-ons: from 1.0 to 1.8, for example.

Step 3

Remove the homemade add-ons. If you have installed a crack, addon or amateur patch on the program, then it will probably be impossible to install the official one. Most often, installing such a modification replaces the original program files that conflict with the original patch. The only way out is to "rollback" the changes or, if it is not possible, to completely reinstall the program.

Step 4

Install the patch manually. Most often, this option is used for amateur "patches" for selected products. It happens as follows: you download an archive, which will contain several folders or files. Most likely, there will also be an instruction in.txt format where to place these folders. If it is not there, then try to find them yourself: by opening the root directory of the program, find files or folders with the same name. If they are not there, then you cannot say for sure something - patches are located differently in different products. Look for instructions.
