IT professionals recommend purchasing more powerful cooling systems. They are able to automatically decrease or increase the fan speed. If you do not have the opportunity to purchase expensive cooling systems, but you want to reduce the noise level, i.e. to reduce the number of revolutions of the cooler, then you can use software or mechanical monitoring of the speed of their rotation.

It is necessary

Speed Fan software, variable resistor, electric soldering iron

Instructions

Step 1

As a rule, a decrease in the number of revolutions of a cooler leads to an increase in temperature, but to a decrease in the noise level, which is often a leading reason when purchasing cooling products. There is a certain temperature threshold that cannot be crossed, but you can reach it without losing the quality of work. You can use the Speed Fan program to automatically adjust the fan speed. It displays the real temperatures of all devices that are equipped with special sensors, and allows, based on the data on the rotation speed, to adjust the rotation of the coolers in percentage.

Step 2

For mechanical adjustment of the fan speed, special devices can be used. They are mounted directly near the cooler itself and allow changing the fan speed with a conventional variable resistor. These ESCs tend to cost several times more than their homemade counterparts, which can be made in a matter of minutes. The only condition for their use is the lack of the ability to adjust the fan speed using software.

Step 3

After you turn off the computer and open the side wall of the system unit, you need to mount your device. Remove the cooler. The cooler is powered through a loop consisting of 3 wires: black, red and yellow.

Step 4

Strip the red wire and treat it with rosin and a heated soldering iron.

Step 5

Purchase a variable resistor from any radio component store. The required resistance of this resistor is from 100 to 300 ohms, and the power is from 2 to 5 watts. As a rule, such a resistor has 3 contacts. Solder one wire of the cooler to the left and middle contact, and the other to the one that remains free.

Step 6

Screw the variable resistor structure to the back of the system unit. Leave the resistor in the extreme right position. After turning on the computer, wait 20-30 minutes until it warms up completely. Empirically, you can calculate the required rotation speed, which is set by turning the knob of the resistor.
