The appearance of a blue screen on the laptop monitor indicates a malfunction. Sysadmins call it the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). The error message you receive will help solve the problem, but you might also need to diagnose your computer fully.
Trouble-shooting
When a blue screen appears, write down the information indicated after the words "The problem seems to be caused by the following file" on a piece of paper. In it, the system will indicate a list of files, the incorrect operation of which leads to an error. Also, write down the error code that follows the word "STOP:". You can find out what this code means and fix the error by typing it into any search engine on the Internet.
If you cannot fix the problem in this way, you need to conduct a full scan of the laptop, you may have to do this in Safe Mode. Think back to the changes you've made to your laptop lately. Most often, the appearance of a blue screen is caused by incorrect settings of the laptop hardware, as well as changes in the parameters of some programs (for example, updating drivers). Try to return these parameters to their previous mode.
Another common cause of blue screens is poor physical connection of laptop components. Open the laptop case and check that all cables and boards are securely connected. Doing this with a laptop is somewhat more difficult than with a desktop computer.
Also check the temperature at which your laptop is operating. Overheating of the video card and processor can also cause an error. To diagnose this parameter, you can refer to the laptop BIOS or use specialized software.
Poor performance of certain elements of the laptop can also lead to the appearance of a blue screen. There are special programs for their diagnosis. For example, the free memtest86 program can be used to check the memory cards, and the chkdsk program can be used to diagnose the hard drive.
If the software changes you make do not work, you may need to reinstall the operating system.
Reboot
In some cases, the appearance of a blue screen ends with a restart of the laptop. This happens quite quickly, and it is not possible to analyze the contents of the screen. To prevent restarting the computer, you must make the appropriate changes to its settings. To do this, open the System Properties window by pressing the Windows + Pause keys. Go to the Advanced tab, in the Startup and Recovery section, click the Options button. In the window that opens, uncheck the "Perform automatic restart" checkbox.
