When choosing a DVD, decide how much media you need. It depends on what you are going to burn. The most common are DVDs of 4.7 gigabytes (4.7 Gb). There are also discs of the same format, but at 8, 5 Gb, they are called two-layer. Another type is mini-DVD. The amount of information that can fit on them is 1.4 Gb (1400 Mb). DVDs are further subdivided into "+" and "-". They are practically no different, modern drives both read and write both.

Choose the type of DVD discs depending on how many times you intend to record on this disc. Discs that can only burn files once are called DVD-Rs, and those that can be erased and rewritten are called DVD-RWs. But even RW media can be rewritten not an infinite number of times. Practical experience shows that with careful handling of the disc, it can last for a long time, and you can overwrite files up to 50 times.

Keep in mind that any blank disc also has such characteristics as write speed. The higher it is, the sooner the data will be written to the medium. DVD-R discs have a speed range - from 2x to 16x, DVD-RW discs - from 2x to 8x. When choosing a drive for this parameter, consider the performance characteristics of your drive.
Step 4
Pay attention to the packaging. The disc can be sold in a separate box, or several pieces of discs will be on the spindle, in the so-called tube. There are 10, 25, 50 or 100 pieces on the spindle. The more discs are in the package, the cheaper each disc will cost you.
Step 5
Assess the coverage of the discs. It can be ordinary, on this you can only make inscriptions with a marker, sometimes Printable - the outer side of such disks can be decorated with a pattern using a printer that has the function of printing on disks. Also, DVD discs can be coated with Lightscribe - they can be painted directly with the drive on which the disc is being burned. There is also an improved Hardcoated coating applied to the recordable side of the disc. This coating protects the disc from dust and scratches, allowing it to last 10 times longer than usual.
