The range of tasks that a computer can perform is directly related to what components are installed in it. At the same time, of course, it is impossible to foresee everything in advance. For example, it becomes necessary to transfer information from a video camera to a PC, or you need to create a Raid array from hard disks, but the motherboard does not support this function. In this case, the solution to the problem is to install an additional controller.
It is necessary
- - controller;
- - a small Phillips screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
Before purchasing a controller, find out what unused slots are in the motherboard. To do this, remove the cover of the system case and take a close look at it. Most modern controllers are made in one of two formats - PCI or PCI Express. Make sure your motherboard has an unused slot of one or both types, and buy a controller accordingly.
Step 2
Install the controller board into the slot. Make sure that it fits evenly, the comb of contacts should be almost completely hidden in the connector. Secure the board with a mounting screw, which you can take from the remains of the chassis assembly kit, or temporarily remove one of the screws that secure the DVD drive or hard drive. Do not forget to buy it and screw it into place only after that.
Step 3
Some controllers start working immediately after installation, they do not need to install software. In other cases, driver installation is required. To perform this operation, insert the disc supplied with the controller into the drive and run the installer from it.
